If you have visited our site before you may begin to see a pattern or a certain aesthetic. If you have not then welcome and thank you for joining us. As mentioned in other posts we are influenced by an Asian aesthetic with a Bohemian Touch. We like to call our style Ike-Boho. The Ginseng-Ficus is probably one of the easiest “Bonsai-Esque” plants to buy, purchase, and maintain. The plant is also called Ficus-Microcarpa. What makes this plant special is that it encourages you to engage with it through pruning of it’s leaves and roots this plant like many of our others can become an heirloom. Passed down through generations, much like our Heavenly Bamboo, Jade, Dracaena, and China Doll creations. If you’ve purchased one of any of our creations you can always contact us to walk you through the process of repotting, pruning, or just basic care. And if you live in Long Beach, California or surrounding areas we will pick up the plant from you bring it back to our studio, care for it then return it to you in great growth and in health.

Some basics about the so called Ginseng Ficus, it is native from China to tropical Asia. Ginseng essentially means root in Chinese. The Ginseng Ficus is a great introduction into Bonsai. You can work with it very easily, a sunny indirect light will be great, as well as providing as much humidity as possible, that is why we use rocks often. The charcoal in our pieces is to be used as a water filter if you have to absolutely use tap water we suggest that you pour the water over the charcoal as it is a natural water filter. You don’t have to water the Ficus to often and the best thing to do is to make sure you don’t over water it. If you have purchased one or our Ficus creations you will notice that we have drilled holes in the bottom of the ceramic containers. We here at TajAthO’s are big proponents of bottom watering, especially with ceramic containers. Of which we suggest that you do as well if you buy any plant in a plastic container. That’s for a later post. The leaves are toxic to cats and dog so keep them high, and the sap can be toxic to the skin of humans.
Now our favorite part, a Ficus Ginseng is thought to symbolize abundance, harmony, and new beginnings. Particularly associated with Good Luck and Prosperity, in the home, office, business, or over the shoulder in a Zoom meeting it is an excellent piece to have.
