Usually we save the mention of the properties or the symbolism of a plant for last. However in this case we couldn’t wait. Named after Milo of Croton, a famous Greek athlete particularly a wrestler. He loved to show off his strength, holding his arm with fingers outstretched and challenge people to attempt to bend is little finger. Although there are many varietals of Croton we think this varietal is a good example of that anecdote. However the most popular anecdote is that he would train in the off years by carrying a baby new born calf on his back everyday until the Olympic games, by the time of said games, four years later he had a full grown calf on his back. So the Croton’s symbolisms to be better by learning and training. If you have kids going off to college we recommend this plant to be given as symbolic gesture of doing just that, getting better by learning and training.

But wait there’s more there is also a Feng Shui break down of the Croton plant due to it’s diverse set of colors, green, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, etc. this plant when healthy will show an array of colors and colors in Feng Shui can come together in harmony. Colors representing the five elements. The Five elements in Feng Shui are Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, and Metal. When your Croton plant is in it’s environment it will show you a balance of colors that neutralize negative energy.

The Croton plant is believed to be indigenous to Malaysia and Indonesia and in natural habitat it can grow up to twenty feet high. Of course the Croton plant won’t grow this high in a pot but it will stretch. The Croton plant can be kept in a pot for two to four years just enough time for and Associate Degree or a Diploma.
So let’s go back to the Western and Eastern properties given to it, in Western culture it is a symbol of being better by learning and training. And in Eastern culture when the plant is healthy it will show you a harmony of colors and in doing so showing you the Croton is removing negative energies. With that said the leaves need to be cleaned as the plant attracts dust as well. We have a particular solution that we like to use but that is for a different post. Yes, that is a tease but if you really have read this far, then message us and we will tell you.

Croton plants need light combined with warmth, however keep the Croton plant away from direct midway sun, misting the plant or place on a rock water tray to produce humidity. The soil should be kept moist from spring to autumn. You can bring them out into the sun through filtered light. The Croton plant is easy to propagate so you can pass your plant down through generations. Just take a 4-to-6 inch stem cuttings remove the bottom leaves and place them in water in a sunny spot.
So what did we combine out Croton combo with, Ponytail Palm, which is a very slow grower and at the height of the soil in the combo. The Ponytail Palm is a symbol of perseverance and resourcefulness, the need very little attention but will reward you when you look at them. As you moderately water the Croton the Ponytail Palm will not be jealous of the watering. As the Croton gets taller the Ponytail Palms will begin to get bigger but this will take years, so just enjoy. If you have any questions please contact us here. Or follow us here.
