Welcome to TajAthO’s Garden

Chances are, if you are reading this you are one of our subscribers or visiting our favorite coffee shop, Black Ring Coffee if you are doing one or the other we thank you and if you are doing both we greatly appreciate you. And you are looking at our Fiddle Fig in Wabi-sabi. Please read our Fiddle Leaf Post here, this post is more about Wabi-sabi. In the Western world we are obsessed with the facade, the beauty, the symmetry of most of our architeture, our yards, our homes. Where any imperfection is an assault on the aesthetic that we believe pretends that anything can be perfect of permanent where in this world nothing ever is.

It is our philosophy to not waste, water, plants, or pots here at TajAthO’s garden. We propagate , we collect rain water, we compost, etc. We also wanted to differentiate ourselves from some of the other wonderful plant shops here where we are in Long Beach, California. For example if you are reading this post from visiting Black Ring Coffee then you may be a Long Beach resident and we suggest that you visit Got A Leaf or Rooted in Long Beach as well. (I apologize, I tried to include the website for Rooted but I had difficulty, if anyone could help me with that I would greatly appreciate it.) These two wonderful places have set out a niche for themselves and we love them both. Our approach is a little bit different, not only do we propagate and grow our own plants but we use recycled materials to create our own pots, and soon we will be making our own clay and making pots that don’t challenge you as much as these two pieces may aesthetically which brings us back to Wabi-sabi.

Rooted in Buddhism Wabi-sabi has a reference for the rustic, natural, and imperfect. Of course there is much on line that you can read about so we won’t go to much into it here. You-tube Wabi-sabi and you will see what it means to us here. Most of the plants at our studio were once rejected or about to be thrown away so we bought them, sometimes at full price and other times luckily at a discount. We took the time to propagate them grow and nurse them and yes we could have placed them in a pot but we decided to make our own pots with raw materials we had around the studio. You may think them ugly but we love them. Again it is our basic philosophy to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Of which we do and did however in this case we took the time to pair the plants with these one of a kind pots. So as we will and do offer our plants separately these two plants were paired in these pots exclusively. For their shape, style, growth and aesthetic. For us it’s the little things. We say this with a smile. These are the first two of many more to come. Thank you for visiting Black Ring Coffee and thank you for taking the time to look at our plants. Grow in Peace.
